The realization of this significant moment in history hit me like a ton of bricks as I witnessed it all unfold before me the other day. I was amazed at just how significant it was to me personally and as I've reflected on my feelings, I couldn't help but share some of my thoughts and emotions about this.
As I sat there watching and listening, I was moved by the simplicity and power of the address. To me, it was almost as if the term "American" was unclouded until I could actually clearly visualize what it meant and what I would need to do to personally attain that title in the challenges we face today. I don't know why this thought has never hit me before. Perhaps “America” has been lost for the majority of our generation, only to make its appearance in brief intervals at patriotic events. Then again, maybe our ability to belong to such a legacy is only rewarded by our willingness to serve future generations. I can only guess at the difference between our past and present but hope and pray that all will choose to be involved, take responsibility and own the nation that was given to them.
Obviously the freedoms that we battle today are different than what our nation has experienced in the past. However, “We The People” are ingrained with the motivation to take responsibility and magnify the calling before us and I am excited to feel the hope and inspiration that will lead us on our journey. I believe that we are faced with an opportunity to make something of ourselves and the lives we all share and I’m optimistic that we will make a better tomorrow. How fortunate we are to be a part of such a wonderful nation and call ourselves Americans.

Wow, very eloquently put. I totally agree with everything you said...it truly is an amazing time for us, how lucky are we to be part of something so "great" in history?
Ive often felt that our generation has not been fine-tuned in the ways that older generations have. That is one of the reasons that connecting to those like my grandparents who are all now passed, has such value to me. They understood the value of being selfless and contributing to something more than themselves.
